Last Updated: 31 July 2025

Housekeeping 247 Ltd is committed to protecting the health and safety of our clients, staff, and the wider public. We maintain strict infection control protocols and provide trained personnel for the safe handling, cleaning, and disposal of biohazards. This policy applies across all services, including end of tenancy, fogging, trauma cleans, and emergency call-outs.

1. Key Objectives

  • Prevent the spread of infectious diseases, including viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens

  • Provide clear procedures for dealing with known or suspected contamination

  • Ensure safe, compliant cleaning, disinfection, and waste disposal in all scenarios

  • Protect our operatives through proper training, PPE, and equipment

2. Staff Training & Awareness

All operatives:

  • Receive infection control training, including bloodborne pathogen awareness

  • Are instructed on the proper use and disposal of PPE

  • Are required to report illness symptoms before attending site

  • Understand decontamination procedures for personal and professional safety

3. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Depending on the task, staff are equipped with:

  • Disposable gloves (nitrile or latex)

  • Face masks (surgical or FFP2/FFP3)

  • Goggles or face shields

  • Disposable coveralls or aprons

  • Overshoes or disposable footwear

  • Biohazard bags for safe waste transport

All PPE is single-use unless otherwise stated and disposed of immediately after use in appropriate containers.

4. Infection Control Procedures

When dealing with known or suspected contamination:

  • A full risk assessment is conducted prior to entry

  • All areas are sectioned off as needed and clearly marked

  • Touchpoints are cleaned and disinfected using approved virucidal/bactericidal agents

  • Cleaning follows the principle of “clean to dirty” zones, top to bottom

  • Any biohazardous material is bagged in yellow sacks, double-bagged if needed

  • A fogging machine or ULV sprayer may be used where appropriate (with client consent)

5. Approved Disinfectants

We use only COSHH-assessed products rated for:

  • EN 14476: Virucidal activity

  • EN 1276: Bactericidal activity

  • EN 1650: Fungicidal activity

Products are applied as per manufacturer guidance, with contact dwell times strictly observed.

6. Biohazard Scenarios We Cover

Our team is trained and equipped to respond to:

  • Blood and bodily fluids

  • Needlestick or sharps incidents

  • Hoarding or pest-infested environments

  • Crime scene or trauma clean-ups

  • Infectious disease outbreaks (e.g. COVID-19, norovirus, MRSA)

7. Waste Handling & Disposal

  • Biohazard waste is stored in sealed, marked containers

  • Disposal is arranged through licensed hazardous waste carriers

  • Paper trail and waste transfer notes are maintained as required by law

8. Fogging & ULV Treatment Protocol

  • Carried out only by trained personnel

  • All surfaces pre-cleaned of visible debris beforehand

  • Area remains sealed for required dwell time post-fog

  • Clients receive a treatment certificate and safety data sheet (SDS)

9. Post-Clean Decontamination

  • Staff remove PPE safely and wash thoroughly

  • All reusable equipment is disinfected or quarantined as appropriate

  • Vehicles used are wiped down and ventilated between jobs
