Sustainability & Carbon Reduction Policy

Effective Date: 31 July 2025
Last Updated: 31 July 2025

Housekeeping 247 Ltd is committed to reducing our environmental impact, promoting sustainable cleaning practices, and actively contributing to the UK’s net-zero carbon goals. We recognise our responsibility as a growing cleaning service provider to operate in a way that protects both people and the planet.

1. Purpose

  • To minimise our carbon footprint across all areas of operation

  • To reduce waste, conserve water, and use safer, environmentally responsible products

  • To support clients in meeting their own sustainability goals through greener service delivery

  • To align with PAS 2060 principles for carbon neutrality and government targets for 2050

2. Key Focus Areas

a. Transport Emissions

  • All routes are planned efficiently to reduce fuel use

  • We encourage low-traffic routes and grouping jobs geographically

  • We are transitioning our fleet towards hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs)

  • Staff are trained in eco-driving habits to cut emissions

b. Eco-Friendly Products

  • All cleaning products are vetted for environmental impact

  • We prioritise biodegradable, phosphate-free, non-toxic formulations

  • Products are COSHH assessed and supplied in concentrate or bulk where possible to reduce packaging

  • Single-use plastics are minimised across all services

c. Water & Energy Use

  • All steam cleaning systems are energy efficient (e.g. Karcher, Dupray, Steempro)

  • Microfibre systems reduce the need for chemicals and excess water

  • Machinery is regularly maintained to ensure energy-efficient operation

  • Clients are advised on eco-alternatives like dry steam or encapsulation carpet cleaning

3. Waste Management

  • All waste is segregated at source: general, recyclable, hazardous

  • Used PPE, filters, and packaging are disposed of responsibly

  • We avoid landfill wherever possible by partnering with licensed recycling and waste firms

  • End-of-life machines or tools are donated, refurbished, or recycled

4. Carbon Footprint Monitoring

  • We track van mileage, fuel type, electricity, and equipment usage quarterly

  • Carbon emissions are estimated based on DEFRA conversion factors

  • A full review is conducted annually with the goal of measurable reduction

  • Offset schemes may be introduced for high-emission jobs (e.g. tree planting partnerships)

5. Green Purchasing Policy

  • We favour local suppliers to reduce transportation emissions

  • Packaging is reused or returned where practical

  • All purchased items (uniforms, mops, tools) are chosen for durability and repairability

  • Sustainable brands and refill systems are prioritised when cost-effective

6. Client Support & Collaboration

  • We help commercial clients meet their own carbon goals by offering:
    ▸ Eco product options
    ▸ Paperless reporting and invoicing
    ▸ Reduced-plastic cleaning kits

  • We welcome sustainability clauses in client contracts or frameworks

  • Environmental best practice is discussed during initial onboarding

7. Staff Engagement

  • All staff receive training on eco-conscious work practices

  • Suggestions for improving green operations are encouraged and rewarded

  • We promote a culture of environmental responsibility in daily operations

8. Compliance & Future Goals

  • We comply with all relevant environmental laws, including:
▸ The Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011
▸ The Climate Change Act 2008

  • We aim to publish a public-facing sustainability statement by 2026

  • Certification under ISO 14001 or Carbon Trust Standard will be considered during growth

🔹 Sustainability is not a bolt-on at Housekeeping 247 Ltd—it’s a core pillar of how we operate and how we grow.
